A DIY resource for zines and zine culture
Almost six years I was sent a copy of the first edition of Stolen Sharpie Revolution. We had just started published Rancid News, up to issue 4, and my interaction with Stolen Sharpie Revolution did a lot to change the direction of the zine. Moving from being a zine purely about music to one focused more on the DIY community, an exchange of ideas and ultimately leading to us leaving the name Rancid News far behind.
It’s interesting getting this second edition and comparing it to the first one. Gone are the staples, with bulging folds of paper but the letter templates remain as does the slightly quirky background images.
It still remains, by a clear margin, the perfect introduction to what zines are, how to make them, how to distribute them, where to find them other errata including zine fests, zine tours, how blogs didn’t kill zines and over 30 pages of contacts.
