As Alex points out this is a bit of a strange edition of Brainscan; the first photo issue. Alex put it together with 12 hours to go before flying across to the UK for the London Zine Symposium and it documents aspects of her life (especially her relationship with her partner) over the past three years.
For those who have never read Brainscan Alex loves her words, words and stories. This issue of Brainscan has stories, lots of them in fact, they’ve just been reduced to 20 words and a photo. I have to say I enjoyed it a lot. Partly it’s because I’ve read Brainscan for five years now, but until this zine had never seen a photo of Alex; it was cool to see who had written all of those zines I enjoyed.
It was also fascinating to see some more of what makes her tick, for example, “So I roleplay, I have played Dungeons and Dragons on and off for about 15 years. I have learned that if I play with my punk dice the guys I play with are less likely to steal them”. The fact that a. the dice are pink, so I think the ‘punk’ thing is a freudian slip and b. would never have thought Alex roleplayed made this cool and the rest of the zine is littered with it. Perhaps this is one just for Brainscan fans, but I enjoyed it a lot!
