The HiJacks

Free Your Mind

This 4 track EP is Ska/Skacore of the kind that was so popular in the late 90’s. It would be easy to dismiss The Hijacks as just another ska band that have missed the boat by about 8years. However, whilst they certainly aren’t bringing anything new to the genre, they do what they do incredibly well. I found myself doing a little dance in my kitchen before feeling embarrassed by my aged skanking style and checking to see if anyone was watching. In a time when most music is so serious its nice to hear something with a cheary tone.

The lyrics cover some interesting topics too (From what I can tell as there was no lyrics sheet!) which is refreshing in a genre full of meaningless tripe (Remember Whitmore?).

I find it easy to like The HiJacks. Part of this is surly due to the nostalgic feeling I get when listening to them, taking me back to sweaty nights dancing to some of my favorite bands. But it would be unfair to pretend that this is all The HiJacks have to offer.  ‘Free Your Mind’ is a solid slice of quality ska punk.
