Rum-Muffel split zine

If you have been even peripherally involved in the DIY zine scene in the past few years, there is a high likelihood you are already familiar with these two. Steve’s zine Rum Lad is one of the best coming out of these shores right now and his illustrations have been breaking international barriers and sneaking into Razorcake too. Isy’s Morgenmuffel has been delighting bemused comic fans and exciteable anarchists for nearly twenty issues and has recently been collected into a full 112 page retrospective (Diary of a Miscreant, published by Last Hours).

So as prolific zine makers and good friends, what better way of chronicling their recent trip to Scotland together than collaborating on this. Taking it page by page Steve and Isy draw their way up to the remote near-wilderness of the Cairngorms national park and to a zine event in Edinburgh through good friends, ill equipped mountain hiking, unprecedented snow and the odd bottle of cider. As you’d expect it’s funny and honest and the beauty of that part of the country is captured exquisitely in thin black pen. Throw in a comic version of the talk about how we eat that Isy gave at the event in Edinburgh and a few more of Steve’s great portraits and you have yourself a super little zine that’ll tide you over until Rum Lad #5 and Morgenmuffel #19!
