Text and communiques from the Greek Uprising
I picked up this little collection of insurrectionary extracts from last years London Anarchist Bookfair. So it has taken me a little while to get round to reviewing this but this is not a reflection on its content.
Within the 150 pages on offer here are communiques, text and a time line all collected after the Greek uprising in 2008. The book acts as a historical documentation of the events that took place after the shooting of 15 year old Alexis Grigoropoulos by a police officer, the protests, riots and attacks on the state by anarchist groups.
It’s inspiring to read the impassioned words of those that experienced these moments of insurrection first hand.
The book goes half way to giving the uprising context in the article ‘What Next?’ though little time is spent looking at the conditions or the radical culture in Greece that allowed the events of December 2008 to take place.
The book is well strung together with some of the many spectacular images produced during the time. A new generations riot porn for the window smashers.
In all a useful resource documenting one of the longest periods of dissent Europe has seen for some time.
