Bridge and Tunnel

bridgeimageThose of you that keep your record collection under lock and key or stare, eyes glazed over, at the music on your mp3 player like it holds long lost answers to questions unknown, will understand what it feels like when you find a record that leaves you thinking about the ’significant effect it has had on our life’ and whether you could possibly love this band more than you already do.

This is how I feel listening to Bridge and Tunnel.

East/West is punk for ex-punks. Its melodic female/male dual vocals render images in your mind of social and personal struggles whilst avoiding old punk stigmas or empty, retired sloganeering. It is both beautifully passionate and devastatingly honest.

Musically it presents a maturity never reached by many bands of a similar ilk. The dual guitars are chaotic at times yet contain a real sense of purpose, dancing in and out of unity. It’s rarely fast yet remains energetic though-out. It’s rough around the edges in a most considered and purposeful way. Realistically comparisons could never do them justice.

When I tell you that this band features current and former members of bands like Latterman and Slingshot Dakota everything should start to make sense. This is simple maths.

Great bands squared equals Bridge and Tunnel

I went to see Latterman in Kingston too many years ago having no real idea who they were but knowing all my friends were gonna be there. They reminded me what was special about punk rock. Bridge & Tunnel totally do the same thing – they make beautifully crafted songs that still surprise me when I listen to them. Can’t wait for their UK tour!
