January 29th, 2009 · post by Fred Goodsell · 1 Comment

In the past few weeks the student population has seen a huge shift in political activity away from the apathetic image that has become stereotype in the UK. The number of students taking action in solidarity with Gaza continues to grow. This week has seen victories in various universities across the UK whilst others face repression from university staff, security and police.

Cambridge University is still in occupation and has received high levels of intimidation from some university management. Visit their blog to find out more.

After varying amounts of time occupying areas within their universities students from Sussex, Bradford, Soas, London School of Economics, Essex and Oxford have all claimed victories after winning at least some of their outlined demands from university management. These demands range from disinvestment in arms dealers and academic aid for Palestinian universities including books and computers to free scholarships for Palestinian students.
