February 25th, 2009 · post by Fred Goodsell · Make a comment

g20frontwebAs we draw closer to the G20 Summit on Thursday 2nd April call outs from various groups have started to emerge. Despite the announcement only being made at the end on November 2008 that the summit was to be held in London a diverse range of groups have started to organise mass mobilisations and actions for the 1st and 2nd of April.

Reclaim the Streets

Most notably a Reclaim the Streets style event has been called for outside the Bank of England at 12 noon on the Wednesday 1st April. The call out has come from a group working under the banner G20 Meltdown and is made up of activists from a wide range of backgrounds including environmental, anarchist and anti-capitalist groups. This has been echoed by a Bristol group calling for anti-capitalist action (http://www.bristol.indymedia.org.uk/article/689910)

Camp for Climate Action

Already reported on Last Hours is the Camp for Climate Action call out repeated here.

Join our camp in the Square Mile! Gather at noon, April 1st, at the European Climate Exchange, Hasilwood House, 62 Bishopsgate, EC2N 4AW. Bring a pop-up tent if you’ve got one, sleeping bag, wind turbine, mobile cinema, action plans and ideas…let’s imagine another world.

More information can be found on the Climate Camp website – www.climatecamp.org.uk/g20

On the day..

On the day of the summit, April 2nd, anti-war groups are organising a demonstration around the Excel Centre where the conference is located. Other protests and actions are expected to take place across the city.
