Profile - I started Rancid News in 2001 as a website before it morphed into a print zine, then changed its name to Last Hours. Now in 2011 I design and illustrate for NGOs, non-profits and anyone who wants to change the world at www.eddbaldry.co.uk. I still draw comics sometimes as Hey Monkey Riot.
A small zine about a computer mutiny
The landlord just had some builders painting the communal hallway in my building. It looks cool. But they took down the old ‘please-remember-to-double-lock-the-front-door-else-we’ll-get-robbed’ sign on the front door. So I had to do a new one. I thought I’d go for the scare tactics to hopefully stop my bike getting nicked again!
Between seven and 10 people have been arrested at the DSEi dinner protest this evening after the police imposed conditions on the protest, and ordered it behind metal cordons.
I found this on my desk after Tom Fiction left my flat. Genius! His present for my birthday was to get the Sssnakes song stuck in my head. They’ve got a split with the Bangers, who are also a mint band.
I started work on this cover almost a year ago now, which is totally ridiculous!
Between the picnic, cinema and everything else I had a fairly productive bank holiday working on ‘the work in progress’. I’m on page 24, and getting pretty close to the kidnap. It’s fun. Work on the Excessive Force anthology though is going to force me to put it on the back burner for a while. [...]
Though this will invariably now jinx it, I’ve been making pretty good progess on a book I’ve been working on (now that all the Last Hours coding work is out of the way!). I’m up to page 18, and know where it’s going for a lot more pages after that. I set myself the rule [...]
Spoonboy is touring Europe from the end of August into October. From the Max Levine Ensemble, Spoonboy plays insanely catchy acoustic pop/punk with intelligent and observant lyrics about politics and relationships. Last Hours is putting on the gig in London!
Crack is a (slightly strangely named) alternative comics festival that happens in Rome. This anthology is made up of people who participated in this year’s festival.
The admirable goal of the Alternative Press collective is to promote freedom of expression in the area of printed material and to encourage people to be creative. And one of the ways of doing this was with ‘Publish You’, a new anthology bringing together all the different facets of the small press scene, comix, zines, poetry and writing, and showing that they’re not that different after all. It’s a very impressive statement.
