The No Border camp on the Greek island of Lesvos has now started (running from the 25th-31st August) and hundreds of people have come together to challenge the system that denies freedom of movement in a globalised world, and violently suppresses people’s efforts to find refuge and improve their lives.
Hopefully you’ve noticed, but we’ve relaunched our homepage, and added a couple of new sections. Over 1000 anti-fascists gathered to protest at the site of the BNP’s Red, White and Blue festival this weekend. The largest demonstration took place in Codnor town centre however smaller groups of 200-300 people blocked roads leading to the event, making travel there impossible.
Good news! Last Hours has migrated from Punkyhosting across to Positive Internet. It doesn’t sound very interesting we know, but it means that we shouldn’t have an event like May, where the site was down for the whole month! Since the G20 protest in London this year the policing methods used over April 1st and 2nd have been dissected and discussed regularly in the media and in parliament. Reports have been produced and protests condemning police violence have been organised. Thousands of words have been published both in mainstream and independent media sources discussing civil liberties and issues around the right to protest. But has anything actually changed?
