One of the wonderful things about zines is the craft that goes into them. If you’re tired of spending hours putting your zines together only for them to turn into tat and the staples falling out this DIY Guide is for you. Edd of Hey Monkey Riot shows you how hand bind your pages and create a neat little cover.
I recorded the following videos to go alongside a workshop I was doing at the 2009 Brighton Zine Fest. The booklet, I think, is a useful starting point to bookbinding. It shows you some of the basic folding and sewing you need to make a cute booklet (which you can either use as a notebook or with stuff printed on, as a zine) as well as a slip on cover to hold it all together. The reason for not using glue is to start with is because paper can sometimes act is apparently odd ways when it’s glued in the ‘wrong’ direction i.e. against the grain. It’s a DIY guide all in itself, and will be the next one I do.

The goal, eventually, is to have a written text to go alongside the videos; it should be up soon!
