Salutations

April 29th, 2010 · posted by Pete Willis · marked as: Reviews · Zine reviews

I expect those involved in the DIY punk scene may be familiar with Owen Richards, if not with the man himself then of his photographs that have spilled over from record sleeves, magazines and even national newspapers for the last few years. Not only a super nice guy, he’s also a talented man, constantly taking [...]

April 28th, 2010 · posted by Edd · marked as: Blogs · Hey Monkey Riot

It’s five years since the London Zine Symposium was started so it seemed like a good time to release a book about the symposium (The London Zine Symposium: tales from the first 5 years). Last Hours will be launching it at the London date of the UK leg of the Zines on Toast tour on [...]

The rejected ballot boxes

April 28th, 2010 · posted by Edd · marked as: Blogs · Hey Monkey Riot

It’s two weeks since Last Hours published the ballot boxes poster. I’m not going to bore you with the pencil sketches of all the different ideas I came up with to try and communicate the image, but here are the two that got away (one with good reason, the other’s an idea I want to [...]

RVIVR

April 25th, 2010 · posted by Ganglar · marked as: CD reviews · Reviews

One of the most eagerly anticipated releases of 2010 for at least a few of the Last Hours fraternity – and RVIVR haven’t disappointed.
RVIVR’s first full length carries on in much the same vein as their first two vinyl releases. They play a much simpler, and (for want of a more fitting [...]

As the dust settles: under the dark sky of the UK’s borders

April 25th, 2010 · posted by Bra · marked as: Articles · Columns

Bra, of Brighton No Borders, looks at the media response to the recent air travel suspension and examines the unnoticed privilege afforded to those caught up in the resulting ‘chaos’. As travellers found themselves stuck at borders, unable to get where they wanted to be, those who couldn’t afford the hotel bills had to rough it in departure lounges, unable to shower and having to wear the same clothes for days on end. But for large numbers of refugees, and migrants, stuck in Calais, Ceuta, Melilla, the Canaries etc this is their daily life, but a daily life compounded by barbed wire fences, EU laws, tear gas, sniffer dogs and surveillance.

Believe us, we don’t want your vote either…

April 14th, 2010 · posted by Fred Goodsell · marked as: Blogs · Last Hours blog

As we head towards what is likely to be one of the most overly hyped general elections in recent history (voter confidence is down don’t you know!) we felt the need to express a different opinion. An opinion that we have had enough of this sham democracy (in fact some of us have little faith [...]

Tales from the sofa

April 6th, 2010 · posted by chris 12-o-5 · marked as: Blogs · Prancer

It took me a long time to mentally prepare myself to write this post. The irony of the last thing I wrote being about roller derby was not lost on me as I sat for seconds and minutes and hours and days and weeks on end on my bum with an elevated leg and [...]
