Vanilla Pod

January 24th, 2010 · posted by chris 12-o-5 · marked as: CD reviews · Reviews

I recently went to see Vanilla Pod play at the Fighting Cocks in Kingston.  While there I remarked on the following points to people I saw:  Seeing Vanilla Pod in Kingston seems like being in a time-warp (as this is my home town and the site of many Vanilla Pod viewings, just not in the [...]

Alkaline Trio

January 24th, 2010 · posted by chris 12-o-5 · marked as: CD reviews · Reviews

Alkaline Trio are one of my favourite bands. When I was 16, I got a friend to draw me an Alkaline Trio tattoo design on tracing paper, which I planned to get tattooed across my shoulders in whatever studio would turn a blind eye to inking under-age girls. While I am quite relieved that my [...]

Misery Monday

January 24th, 2010 · posted by chris 12-o-5 · marked as: Blogs · Prancer

Statistically this past Monday, the 18th January, is the most depressing day of the year. Normally I don’t buy into this kind of hype, but this year I’m a fully paid-up member. Aside from the chest infection, not seeing the sun in weeks and being dumped in the rain in a city I [...]

Every day I had to smell these damn things and watch people eating them in my shop with my mouth drooling. My friend Lisa sent me this recipe for tasty vegan cinnamon rolls, and I actually welled up with joy! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Escape to Victory

January 20th, 2010 · posted by zock · marked as: CD reviews · Reviews

This is the latest release of Aberdeen’s punk/hc outfit Escape To Victory, who got together in 2006 to create “a quad vocalled, Œin your face style of melodic hardcore punk that was lacking in Aberdeen”.

The Spits

January 20th, 2010 · posted by zock · marked as: CD reviews · Reviews

Musically this is a mix between The Misfits, Devo and The Ramones, which made me feel quite excited throughout the first two songs. Unfortunately, the whole concept of short, electro-fused late 70s punk gets boring pretty quickly…

Looking back on the COP15

January 13th, 2010 · posted by anon · marked as: Articles · resistance

The COP15 climate change conference was meant to be a significant moment in the global response to the threats of climate change, convening governments after years of negotiation and producing results. The mobilisation to it was huge on all fronts. Delegations from 193 countries, NGOs, scientists, journalists, lobbyists, as well as anarchists and activists either [...]
